Carbohydrate fermentation plate medium for confirmation of Neisseria species.

A carbohydrate fermentation plate medium is described for rapid and reliable confirmation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, N. meningitidis, and other Neisseria species. The medium is based on a modification of NYC (U.S. Patent 3,846,241) medium, originally designed for the isolation of pathogenic Neisseria (3). A total of 715 clinical isolates were tested for their carbohydrate fermentation reactions ...

Rapid fermentation confirmation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

A rapid sugar fermentation procedure has been developed for the confirmation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae from either primary isolation media or purification media. A lightly buffered salt solution with pH indicator and sugars was heavily inoculated with presumptively positive growth. Proper fermentation patterns are obtained in 1 to 4 h with no interference from inhibited contaminants or variation...

Neisseria confirmation by an enriched, bicarbonate-containing carbohydrate medium.

A sugar fermentation medium for the confirmation of Neisseria and related species was developed. The medium contained a commercial supplement and a hemoglobin source prepared from lysed sheep erythrocytes. Bicarbonate in the medium substituted for a CO2-supplemented atmosphere. The medium was dispensed into screw-capped tubes. This medium was compared to cystine-Trypticase agar and the modified...

Evaluation of rapid carbohydrate degradation tests for identification of pathogenic Neisseria.

A total of 156 clinical isolates were tested by the modified rapid fermentation test, the BACTEC Neisseria differentiation kit, and the cystine-Trypticase agar method. The modified rapid fermentation test and BACTEC methods accurately identified at least 95% of 101 strains of N. gonorrhoeae tested and at least 91% of 45 strains of N. meningitidis tested within 4 h. Overall, the cystine-Tryptica...

A study on the frequency of vaginal species of Mycoplasma genitalium, Gardnerella vaginalis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae among pregnant women by PCR technique

Bacterial vaginosis or non-specific vaginitis describes the disease caused by a change in the normal Flora of the vagina, which leads to the elimination of Lactobacilli, generating hydrogen peroxide and excess growth of bacteria, particularly anaerobic bacteria. This disease is the most prevalent infection of the female genital tract, and the rate of frequency of anaerobic bacteria, specificall...
